Who can apply for the scholarships?

Any resident of Robertson County, Tennessee who plans to enroll as a first-year student in a college, university or vocational school may apply for one of these scholarships with the understanding that the scholarship is to be used during the two semesters or three quarter during the succeeding academic year. You do not have to have attended a school in Robertson County, however, you must be a Robertson County resident.

Do I need to wait and send my parents' 2007 income tax return or can I send their 2006 return?

We prefer the most recent tax return in order to give you the best consideration for the scholarship. The scholarship judging is heavily weighed to consider need. That does not mean if your parents make good salaries you would not be considered. If there are circumstances (i.e., two children in college at once, health issues, etc.) your need could be greater than others. If the 2007 return is not available, please send the 2006 return with your application.

My school does not give out class rank until after report cards in March. Can I still apply without a rank?

Yes, you may apply without your most current class rank. The more information you supply, the better we can evaluate your application. If you have a class rank from a previous year or semester, then use that information and then specify they year and/or semester the class rank was obtained.

How are scholarship applications graded?

Each application is considered on its merits by a panel of judges. The judges score each application based on scholastic achievement, financial need, extra curricular activities, references and even neatness of the application. The scores are then ranked against scores of other applicants to determine the winners.

How much are these scholarships worth?

Scholarship values vary each year. Scholarships in 2007 were valued at $2,850 (one-year) to $10,000 ($2,500 for four years). A total of $43,500 was awarded in 2007 to 13 applicants. The Scholarship Foundation anticipates similar awards in 2008.
